Your Home Practice as a Refuge
While our home practice (or our yoga and meditation practice in general), holds so many benefits for us physically, psychologically and energetically, it cannot be seen as the ‘fix-all’ solution to all of the situations and circumstances that we find ourselves in life.
For me, I see my home practice as a ‘refuge’ – a space that I create for myself each day to pause, catch my breath, and hold myself in presence for a while.
To create the space in my day where I sit down and sincerely ask myself,
How am I feeling today?
What do I need?
How can I help today?
What can I do for myself today?
I have realised that I do not have access to the insights these questions pose if I am constantly on the go, running away, resisting or hiding from what may be going on for me.
So our home practice gives us a safe refuge, a shelter from the storm, a breathing space, to pause, soften, feel and reflect.
By cultivating and nurturing some time and space to connect with ourselves, it gives us a starting point to figure out what is needed to support us on our journey to healing, acceptance, understanding and self-compassion.
For me, my home practice gave me the insight into what I needed and the courage to reach out for help - which has included psychotherapy, naturopathy, life coaching, energy medicine, Chinese medicine and acupuncture, just to mention a few - to help me find my way forward, to help me connect more deeply and authentically with life and to give me a foundation of support to lovingly accept who I am and why I am here.
Remember your home practice does not need to be complicated, time consuming or require hours of special training to do.
You just need a commitment to you, a sense of devotion towards the journey of discovery, and loads of care and compassion for you.
Take care my friend, and may your home practice be your refuge.
With love,
Sharon
